The first teaser trailer, promo poster, and official image for Michael Bay’s third Transformers film, “Transformers: Dark of the Moon”, have all been released. The teaser doesn’t reveal much, there aren’t even any giant space robots until near the two-minute mark, but it does link the Transformers to the 1969 moon landing, which is something. The sweeping nature of many of the moon shots also seem like they’ll look pretty awesome in 3D.

Bay showed some of the footage, in various stages of completion, to a bunch of reporters, and here’s what Collider had to say about the sneaky peek into the movie:

[B]ecause [Bay] lifted the veil on the story and some of the massive action set pieces, I can tell you with certainty the 3rd “Transformers” movie looks to be the biggest and possible the best of the trilogy. He knows the second one wasn’t what it should’ve been and he’s aiming for a huge improvement in terms of story and action…I saw an action set piece that looks so fraking amazing, even with people firing guns at nothing and some shots just animatics, I was completely invested in the scene and I could follow exactly what they were trying to do. I was blown away by the footage. Trust me, the 3rd movie is going to be a huge improvement and you have never seen action on this scale. It also has a story!

While I’m not particularly a fan of either of the first two “Transformers” movies (just my opinion, I know there are a lot of fans out there), even I’ll admit that this footage does look cool. The moonscapes are well done, and I’m curious how they’re going to connect the Transformers and Apollo 11. My interest has been aroused, and isn’t that the whole point of a teaser trailer?
